Yachtsmen can use the Intracoastal Waterway on the Atlantic side of the Keys.

Islamorada is often called the Sport Fishing Capital of the World and for good reason. To the east is the deep-blue water of the Atlantic with its sailfish, tuna, and dophin and to the west the Florida Bay with its permit, tarpon and bonefish. Experienced charter boat captains and guides stand ready to assist you. The patch coral reef along the island teems with marine life making Islamorada a favorite with divers. Others may prefer to see their denizens of the deep performing at Windley Key´s Theater of the Sea.

Islamorada offers superb diving sites and artificial reefs. Among these are:

The Eagle - sunk to create an artificial reef, this 287-foot ship lies in 110 feet of water, a habitat for schools of grunt, tarpon, and jack.

Davis Reef - a habitat for huge numbers of grunt and schoolmaster snapper.

Alligator Reef - marked by a 136-foot lighthouse, the reef in 25 feet of water is alive with marine life.

Crocker Wall - a 450 - foot wall in 50 feet of water and a favorite spot for grunt, yellowtail, and grouper.

Pickles Reef - superb for macro photo enthusiasts. Here you will encounter Flamingo Tongue, Cowries, and Banded Coral Shrimp and other flora and fauna of a coral reef in only 15 - 24 feet of water.

The area surrounding Islamorada has several state parks and natural sites. There are nature trails for campers at Long Key State Recreation Area. Additional trails are at Windley Key State Geologic Site with acres of fossilized coral. Nearby, flora of the area can be viewed at Lignumvitae Key State Botanical Site.
